If you want to try it yourself
- Find the studs first. A stud finder works, and so does knocking: a hollow sound means drywall only, a solid sound means wood behind it. Mount the bracket into at least two studs, never into drywall alone.
- Check the weight and size on the TV's back plate and the bracket's rating before you buy. Match the screw pattern (the VESA numbers) printed in your TV manual.
- Pick the height before you drill. Seated eye level is about the center of the screen, which is usually lower than people expect.
- Hide the cords with a paintable cord cover on the wall, or ask about running them inside the wall only if an electrician does the power part.
